While the project began in December 2022 with a 40-month deadline and a budget of 297 crores, progress has been slow, raising concerns about meeting the deadline. As of July 2024, only 15% of the work is complete, with many key features still under construction. The Railway Land Authority is closely monitoring the project to ensure timely completion.

of the new station building is set to begin at the end of February. The ground floor of the second terminal building on the west side is complete. A G+3 foot-over bridge is under construction and will eventually become a G+9 building. A sub-power station is also being built. Ajni station currently has three platforms and four more are being added. Upon completion of all buildings, the station's passenger capacity will increase to 44,000 per day. The redevelopment project began in 2023 and is scheduled for completion by May 2025.
