You have a valid point. With some premium running near-empty and others being full within days of reservation opening, I dont think even IR knows which ones will be successful and which won't. They are trying new pricing models, new train compositions and should be able to figure what works best. I am happy to at least see that they are trying something to improve financial health rather than just let things deterioriate to the point of shutdown or full privatization (see many examples from our neighbouring countries). Let's see if these efforts bear fruit.

more... had suggested in a post sometime back that IR could consider half Garib Rath and half Premium type of rake compositions. To my mind that is a good blend of ensuring patronage as well as revenue maximization. There must be other such models too with the recent Premium Tatkal being another variation of the same concept.
