The company refused to allow the railway to weigh the goods at the station and subsequently filed a claim in the Railway Claims Tribunal. The Tribunal ruled in favor of the railway, ordering SAIL to pay the amount along with interest. The High Court dismissed the appeal filed by the General Manager of the Eastern and Western Railway Zones, upholding the Tribunal's decision. The court considered SAIL a government enterprise and noted that the company had not pursued weighing the goods at the railway station despite raising concerns about the shortage.

Durgapur Steel Plant se Lakshmi Nagar tak bheje gaye pig iron ki shipment se related tha. SAIL ne delivery accept ki thi aur delivery book mein sign bhi kiye the, par baad mein unhone maal kam hone ka claim kiya. Company ne railway ko station pe maal weigh karne ki permission nahin di aur phir Railway Claims Tribunal mein claim daayr kiya. Tribunal ne railway ke favour mein faisla diya aur SAIL ko paisa aur interest dene ka order diya. High Court ne Eastern aur Western Railway Zones ke Mahaprabandhak ki appeal ko kharij karke Tribunal ke decision ko support kiya. Court ne SAIL ko ek sarkari company mana aur notice kiya ki company ne maal kam hone ka shikayat karne ke baad bhi station pe weigh karne ka pursue nahin kiya.
