train no. 90260, virar-churchgate fast local arriving bhayandar at 8:45 am overshot the platform no. 6 today morning. I was at the platform waiting to board the first class coach of this local as usual. The signal was green when the train entered the platform. However, when I saw it zipping past me, I knew there was some problem because the speed was twice the normal at that point. Although the motorman had applied the emergency brakes by then, but still the local had overshot the churchgate side end of the platform causing all the passengers to run towards that direction to board their normal coach. The women passengers must have had big problem since it is not possible for them to board other than ladies coach during peak rush.
I...
more... wonder what if any woman passenger travelling in the ladies coach just behing the motorman's cabin had to get down at bhayandar would have done since that coach must have stopped beyond the platform ending point.
Well, since we know that anything is possible in Indian Railways, specially WR, I chose to board a second class coach that came in front of me rather than running towards a first class coach that I normally board every day.
The local halted for around 10 minutes at bhayandar station leading to a minor delay (minor because it is normal for WR locals to get delayed by 20-25 minutes between bhayandar-dadar stretch which should take only 43 min).
Am not sure whether any action would be taken against the motorman because it might have happened that the motorman was busy sharing a joke with his friends who accompany him (yes, in his cabin, which is illegal) in morning peak hours and forgot to apply the brakes in time.
