The revenue generated from ticket sales on these trains is less than 1% of their operational costs. The exact cost per kilometer for running a train is not available, but it includes expenses like electricity/fuel, salaries for staff (locomotive pilots, guards, ticket checkers), and wages for station staff (station masters, signal maintainers, etc.). The railways subsidizes passenger train fares, particularly for sleeper and general class, using revenue from higher-priced AC classes and freight services, which is the primary source of income for the railways.

Dhanbad se Sindri ke beech din ke teen passenger trains chalti hain. In tinon passenger trains ka bhi yahi haal hai. Tinon mein ek taraf se average 88 yaatri ki chalte hain. In trains se ticket bikri ke roop mein jo rajasv hasil hota hai woh train parichalan par aane wala kharch ka 1% se bhi kam hota hai. Ek train ke parichalan par kharch | Kisi train ko chalane mein prati km kitna kharch aata hai iska aakda railways ke pass nahin hai. Par train chalane ke liye bijli ya indhan ke saath kai any kharch bhi aata hai. Train mein loco pilot, guard aur ticket checking staff chalte hain. Wahi raste mein aane wale har station par station master tatha any staff, raste mein signal maintainer, point man tatha any ki duty rehti hai. Is sabhi ke vetan aur bhatton par aane wala vyay bhi train parichalan ke kharche mein aata hai. Kisi train ki kitni occupancy Ghatte ko aise pura karti hai railways | Railways mein passenger trains ke sleeper tatha general class ka kiraya kaafi kam hota hai. Par AC ke uchchh श्रेणी ka kiraya adhik hota hai. Uchchh श्रेणी ke kiraya se sleeper aur general ke kiraya ko kuchh had tak subsidize kiya jata hai. Passenger trains ke kiraya ko maal dhulai se subsidize kiya jata hai. Yaani railways ko aay maal dhulai se hi hota hai. Jisse passenger trains ke ghatte ko pura kiya jata hai.
